Welcome to McAllen Ranch Hunting,
the premier hunting experience of South Texas.

La Guajolota Ranch (a division of McAllen Ranch) opened its doors to trophy hunters in 1972. With the help of an on-staff wildlife biologist, the ranch maintains a 1 buck-to-1 doe ratio that is always enforced. Full time wildlife managers also perform a helicopter census bi-annually. Game proof fences have been constructed throughout the ranch to ensure strict game management, and wildlife watering areas and feeding stations are located at “high traffic” areas to provide for the survival and growth of our native wildlife populations.

McAllen Ranch has been owned and operated for more than 200 years. The ranch is recognized by the state of Texas as one of the oldest ranches in consecutive family ownership. In 2006 McAllen Ranch was designated a national historical area. More than six generations have lived at the ranch headquarters of San Juanito beginning in 1791 up to the present day. Among the two generations living on the ranch today, hunting has always been conducted in a conservative manner. Weather and environment play a large part in determining the number of animals harvested each year. We view the native wildlife as a valuable and irreplaceable part of the ranch and want to continue these traditions for many generations to come. We hope to share our home with welcomed guests in the same manner.

A consistent feeding program has helped the ranch maintain a solid wildlife base to select from each year. Each year, feed is placed at many strategic areas of the ranch to invigorate the wildlife population. Depending on time of the year and annual rainfall, different levels of protein are distributed to the wildlife in these locations.

Our methods of hunting at McAllen Ranch vary depending on location and weather. Most hunting is conducted from a ground blind, and there are occasions when a top drive vehicle is used. A guide is always assigned to a hunter, and hunting areas are guaranteed to be isolated from others in your group. Most pastures hunted exceed 2,000 acres to provide ample space for your hunting safety and the safety of others around you. Hunting large pastures separate from one another also keeps the native wildlife docile and well controlled.

The ranch is a rich and diverse place to visit, with many more attractions to be found besides hunting. For those who wish to diversify their experience, ranch tours can be scheduled during your hunt at mid-day. A ranch history or cattle ranching tour provides a great opportunity to learn more about this ranch’s impressive cattle ranch operation. We are more than happy to take note of your requests and accommodate your stay to the best of our abilities. Please view other pages of our website and let us know what aspects of the ranch and our wildlife setting interests you the most!
